John Deere is ingrained in American culture, I can still remember riding my dads old John Deere tractor feeling its strong engine as we travel around the farm. My Dad stuck with his John Deere tractor for decades and when it was time to get a new one he still went with John Deere even when Ford gave him a better deal with their latest model.

I’ve had first hand experience with a John Deere with their utility vehicles during the 90′s. My uncle has an AMT which he used travel around his flower farm. It didn’t stand out from other comparable UTV brands but It did have the John Deere signature color and engine which my uncle considered more important than any feature other manufacturer were offering. He never said it aloud but my uncle loved driving that UTV and gave me the chance to drive it during summer. The AMT was fun to drive it did felt slow but did its job really well.

Today things have change with John Deere, their new lineup of utility vehicles are a giant leap from the old AMT. The Gator XUV line have been engineered as a multipurpose vehicle for civilian and adaptable to military use with some upgrades.

The engine has the legendary John Deere signature of power and superior durability. The John Deere XUV 2011 is a true all terrain vehicle that can really change how you view a utility vehicle. Its one of the few UTV you can really use for work and at the same time for recreation.

We all have our opinions on when’s the best time to buy an ATV. Generally from my experience the best time would be after summer or the end of September. There are a lot summer deals but I notice its easier to negotiate with dealers when the month is ending (I think they need to make the sales quota). I consistently get awesome deals when the summer season ends. Getting last years model also helps a lot in getting the price you want, but I notice even the current models are price really competitively during this time.

Heres a great Summer deal from Artic Catwhich I think makes one of the best ATVs in the market. I would skip the 2009 and bellow models and stick with the 2010 to 2012 ATVs. I notice a lot of changes in the 2010 models which makes them a great buy if your looking for an extra ATV for a yourself or a family member.

Four Wheeler

The Four Wheeler or a Quad is the most common type of ATV in the market. The four wheeler evolved from the 6 wheel amphibious ATV and the 3 Wheeler. During the middle of the 80′s manufacturers started replacing the 3 wheeler with Quads due to safety reasons. Today the four wheeler is the dominant type of ATV in the market and is currently in use for all types of purposes from recreation, racing sports, industrial and even military.Three Wheeler

The three wheeler is on the earliest for of ATV in the market. They started coming out in the American markets during the early 80′s. But early models of the three wheelers or trikes came even in the late 60′s as popular projects for motorbike enthusiast. Honda came out with the model US90 which was still a hybrid model but soon became its framework for more off road models which gave them a reputation for creating the best three wheelers. A banned on three wheelers was imposed on the late 80′s and gave way to the rise of Quads.

Six Wheelers or AATV

The six wheelers or an AATV is the original form of ATV which came out in the market during the early 60′s. Manufacturers like Jiger, Amphicat and Terra Tiger introduced America to the world of the ATV. The concept of a vehicle that can go any where was very popular in the market and was further made popular by the moon buggy from Apollo Missions. Popular Mechanics often would have several ads of amphibious ATV showing their capabilities. Most early 6 wheelers were hard on maintenance and were very expensive.

But the price has certainly convinced me to give it a second thought and buy one as a second ATV. Right now you can actually buy a Tao Tao ATV for around $500 dollars. This price level is so attractive its certainly going to bring a lot of people to give Tao Tao a try.

There some new ATVs coming, and they are to change how you decide when you buy a new ride. Electric ATVs are coming; they are very quiet, they are fast and reliable. They are still pricey and currently starts somewhere around $12,000. I can see electric ATV being popular for hunters and even for people who care about the environment.
